6 Reasons Why You Should Consider a Backyard Elopement

First off they are completely unique. You are likely the only person getting married at that location. It may very well be somewhere that holds sentimental feelings for you or that you can visit again and again.

𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲’𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸𝘆𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁! Here are just a few:

1. You, or friends and family have an awesome backyard that you can see yourself getting married in! Maybe it’s in a gorgeous location, on acreage, or somewhere sentimental to you.

2. You want to be married outdoors but also somewhere you don’t have to worry about crowds of people.

3. You want your day to feel cozy and comfortable. You imagine a day that feels more intimate with close friends and family.

4. You want to be able to cater to family members with special needs (not mobile, etc.

5. Super convenient for set up and break down and no rules (outside of local ordinances)

6. The fur children are invited!! (I think that’s my favorite and the most important reason!)

A Backyard Elopement in the Columbia River Gorge

I met A&T while staying on their amazing Airbnb property in the Columbia River Gorge. During my stay I got to know them – they had just bought their dream home, surrounded by pines and nestled in a little marsh valley at the base of Beacon Rock in the Columbia River Gorge.

I fell in love with their little piece of paradise (and their sweet pup Lily) and lucky for me, they invited me back to shoot their backyard elopement!

If you know me, you know I’m all about people getting married in a way that is uniquely true and meaningful for them, and that was just what A&T did.

Their elopement day was also their housewarming! They invited their closest family to come stay and experience their new home and celebrate their life together! They walked down the aisle together with their pup Lily, shared their vows down in the meadow, traded a first dance for a dirt bike wheelie, and enjoyed a candlelight lunch prepared by their family. It was perfect in every way.

About the dirt biking – When A and I were dreaming up what her and T’s day could be, she shared that dancing is not really their thing. But dirt biking is. Well, it’s T’s thing and he is really dang good at it! So low and behold, they gathered with an intimate group of family on their breathtakingly beautiful property in a canyon on the Columbia River Gorge, and after they said their vows, there was dirt biking instead of dancing!

T had the idea to test his skill and kiss his bride while doing a wheelie in the air. And It was EPIC! Their family gathered and was cheering them on. And A mustered up her bravery while a dirt bike speed straight for her –  but success! Scroll on, there’s a picture to prove it! I hope this post inspires you to plan your dream backyard elopement and make it completely your own and unique YOU.
